D2: Instructions onObservation Report and Discussion of Student Learning in the Classroom
This discussion will start with a posting of an observation made in your classroom focus on student learning. If you don't have a classroom, please let me know by Tuesday so we can discuss an alternative focus or site for you.
What do you need to do during the first week of Discussion Two?
1. Make an observation of the students in your classroom in learning a particular concept or skill based on an instructional activity early in the week.
2. Pick TWO students (preferably a boy and a girl) and make a report on their learning behaviors in the context of the instructional activity. Use fake names for each student and describe the individual characteristics.
3. Provide as much details on how each student approach the task to be accomplished including struggles and successes.
4. In your report, describe if there are similarities and differences in how each student complete the instructional activity. This will be your INITIAL posting. Please label your subject heading with your last name and "observation".
5. Towards the middle of the week, make another observation of the two students and report if the same learning behaviors are exhibited as they complete new instructional activities. Also, describe how you assisted or help the students complete the new instructional tasks. This posting should be your FIRST reply to your initial posting.
6. By the end of the first week, you need to make a SECOND reply to your initial posting based on your reflections on which of the following learning theories better explain the student behaviors: Radical Behaviorism, Motivation, Self-Regulation, Cognitive Processing, or Situated Cognition. Make sure that you provide succint explanations for your selection.
What do you need to do during the second week of Discussion Two?
1. In this second week of discussion, you are expected to agree or disagree to the analysis of at least THREE peers on observations made in their classrooms. You need to do this by posting a reply to their initial postings. Whether you agree or disagree, you need to provide an explanation of your own decision accompanied with a supporting citation (APA format) from the Driscoll text.
2. Towards the end of the second week of discussion, you need to make an INITIAL posting (your second) with a subject heading label -- last name and "reflections". This second posting will capture what you learned about observed student learning behaviors in the classroom and how learning theories can be applied to better understand them.
3. You are expected to actively participate in the second week of discussion. You are encoourage to do more than what is stated above as minimum expectations for initial postings and replies.
